Memorial planned in Clovis for ‘Doc’ Buchanan

Floyd “Doc” Buchanan, the founding superintendent of Clovis Unified School District, will have an memorial and open house on Oct. 22; he died Aug. 11 at the age of 91.

The event will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Buchanan High School’s multipurpose room.

At 6 p.m., CUSD Superintendent Janet Young will speak and there will be music performed by Clovis Unified students.

Memorabilia, photos and a video of Buchanan will be on display, the district said. Visitors will have the opportunity to share their favorite stories of him as a part of a developing permanent collection to be preserved by the district.

Buchanan’s two favorite treats, root beer floats and popcorn, will be available.

At his request, remembrances may be made to the Foundation for Clovis Schools at 1450 Herndon Ave., Clovis, CA, 93611, the district said. The foundation is the nonprofit organization Buchanan created that provides additional support to students and teachers by way of scholarships and classroom grants.
