Tulare County College Night aims to help students prepare for college
Tulare County College Night returns to the Visalia Convention Center on Tuesday. Representatives from around 70 colleges will be on hand to talk to students and parents about entrance requirements, tuition and housing, the Tulare County Office of Education said.
The event is 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Students and parents can attend two sessions of informational presentations on topics including: 21st century careers, UC/CSU eligibility requirements, private schools, scholarship opportunities, writing effective college essays, admissions testing, financial aid and athletic recruitment, the Office of Education said. The presentations are at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
The presentations on financial aid and the UC/CSU systems will be offered in English and Spanish.
Information on the Tulare County College Night Scholarship will also be available. It provides one student $1,000 per year for up to four years and is based on academic and personal accomplishments, the Office of Education said. Applications will be available through the College Night website in late September.
College Night is designed for high school students and parents who want to learn more about preparing for and applying to colleges, the Office of Education said.
“The College Night committee does an outstanding job of bringing higher education resources to thousands of Tulare County students each year,” said Jim Vidak, Tulare County Superintendent of Schools. “The event is a great collaboration between parent volunteers, teachers, college representatives and community supporters.”
