UPDATE: Clovis police lifted the school lockdown at about 4 p.m. Monday, March 9. Read the latest coverage.

The Reagan Educational Center that includes Clovis East High and Reyburn Intermediate schools is currently on a shelter-in-place lockdown, according to Clovis Unified School District.

The complex has been under lockdown since 1:25 p.m. Monday while Clovis Police investigates a threat call.

The shelter-in-place order extends to Reyburn Intermediate because their neighboring school has police on site, according to the school district.

At approximately 12:45, the Clovis Unified Police Department requested assistance from the Clovis Police Department after Clovis East received the threat call, according to Ty Wood, the spokesperson for Clovis Police.

Wood said he is unable to provide more information regarding the type of threat.

Clovis Police sent several officers to the campus for the search and look after students, working alongside Clovis Unified’s police officers, Wood said.

The shelter-in-place order won’t be lifted until the Clovis Unified Police Department determines the campus is safe, Wood said.

In an updated message, Clovis Unified School District provides that the call was received during lunch, and it contained a threat to student safety.

Students were moved to classrooms at first, and are now moving to the gyms under adult supervision, the district announced at around 2:20 p.m.

“Though this call had hallmarks of a hoax, we take any possible safety concern seriously and are exhausting every measure to confirm no threat exists to students,” the district said in a statement.

Besides students from Reagan Educational Center, high schoolers across Clovis Unified’s high schools, including alternative education school, gathered today at Clovis East for the Latino Success Conference, according to the Clovis Unified.

The conference was scheduled to end at 1:20 p.m., but attendees will remain at the site until the lockdown lifts.

As of 2:50 p.m., the elementary school next to Clovis East, Reagan Elementary, was cleared to release students on time for bus riders and parent pick up, district officials said.

The district asks parents to use the regular pick-up and drop-off lanes in the parking lot. Parents are not allowed on campus, according to the message sent to parents.

Students who typically walk home will be held in the multipurpose room for parents who present an ID to pick up, or until the neighboring intermediate and high schools lift the lockdown order.

After-school activities at the elementary except Expanded Learning Club program have been cancelled.
