Enhanced security screenings at Clovis football games to last all season

Clovis varsity football fans will need to get comfortable with the district’s new security screening system, which will be used for the rest of the season in an effort to keep weapons out.

Buchanan’s Veterans Memorial Stadium and Clovis High’s Lamonica Stadium will be the only sites with the new system, Evolv Express.

District spokesperson Kelly Avants told The Bee that Clovis Unified plans on using the system “at all games this fall” on account of attendance volume.

“These events will also continue to be staffed by our Clovis Unified officers and school administrators. The combined eyes and ears of our law enforcement, school, student and community attendees remains a highly effective safety measure,” Avants said.

Avants said the district could use the portable system at “other very large events” in the future.

Avants said the district has been considering using the technology for over a year.

This change comes four months after Caleb Quick, an 18-year-old who attended Clovis Online School, was gunned down in a McDonald’s parking lot. Earlier this week, two schools at the neighboring Fresno Unified School District went into lockdown after a student was found with a fake firearm.
