New Clovis university one step closer to full accreditation

California Health Sciences University in Clovis has moved to the second of three steps needed for full accreditation, following the WASC Senior College and University Commission’s annual meeting in July.

Not long after it was founded in 2012, the university started the accreditation process with the commission, one of six regional associations in the U.S. that accredits schools, colleges and universities. The university first offered classes in August 2014.

“We’re proud to achieve this important university milestone with WSCUC, within our aggressive timeline,” said Florence Dunn, the university’s founding president.

The university also learned in July that the national agency that accredits all Doctor of Pharmacy programs, the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, will visit next spring to consider its pharmacy program for advancement to the second of three steps for program accreditation. The university’s College of Pharmacy, which opened as the Valley’s first pharmacy college, was granted the first step to accreditation in January 2014.

The university is eligible for full accreditation by the commission and council in 2018, upon the graduation of its first class.
