Clovis Community gains full college status
Full community college status was given Monday to Clovis Community College.
The California Community Colleges’ Board of Governors voted unanimously Monday to recognize the Clovis school with the designation.
The Clovis campus — formally known as Willow International Center — currently serves about 6,000 students and is the 113th community college in the state.
Monday’s vote affirms the campus’ initial accreditation granted earlier this month by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The school’s expansion to full college status means a $1.3 million yearly increase in state funding and room to grow enrollment and facilities.
The campus, which opened in 2007, is part of the State Center Community College District and joins Fresno City College and Reedley College in community college status, while the Madera and Oakhurst sites currently remain centers. The process to gain full college status took Clovis Community about six years.
“The addition of Clovis Community College means students in this important Central Valley region will be better served with a wide array of instructional and support services,” CCC Board of Governors President Geoffrey Baum said in a news release.
