The Clovis Unified school board on Wednesday approved the employment contract of its incoming superintendent with a starting base salary that’s the same as its outgoing superintendent.

Corrine Folmer will take over as the next superintendent of the Clovis Unified School District on July 1 — making $286,760.

Her contract terms, according to the school district, will match that of outgoing superintendent Eimear O’Brien, who is retiring in June after leading the district for six years.

“This contract is a reflection of the board’s confidence in Dr. Folmer’s leadership, which she’s already demonstrated across many years,” Board President David DeFrank said.

Over her 20-year career in Clovis Unified, Folmer has served students as a teacher, guidance instructional specialist, learning director, elementary principal, assistant superintendent of the Clovis East Area, and currently the associate superintendent.

Although O’Brien earned $286,000 pay in 2021 and 2022, her starting salary in 2017 was $230,000, base pay that didn’t increase until 2021 when the board approved a pay bump to put her salary on par with other superintendents from similar-sized California school districts.

Because of the district’s “comprehensive review” of superintendent compensation and consequent adjustment to the salary two years ago, the current salary is appropriate for Folmer, DeFrank discussed with the Ed Lab after the meeting.

Like O’Brien’s, Folmer’s four-year contract includes:

  • 8.25% longevity salary increment

  • A $100,000 life insurance benefit

  • $300 monthly allowance for school district activities
