This Fresno-area high school counselor is one of the best in the state. Find out why
Hello Education Readers,
It is Monday, Dec 6.
The countdown to the winter break has begun. Clovis, Fresno, and Central Unified students will begin winter break on Dec 20. Fresno State students can expect to start their winter break on Dec. 23.
In the spirit of the winter holiday, some good news is happening in our community.
McLane High School counselor Yia Le won the Arthur S. Marmaduke High School Counselor Award this month. The prestigious award is a statewide honor that recognizes one California counselor’s work and achievements in helping students prepare and go to college. Le was recognized during a Zoom ceremony and received a plaque and a $1,500 check.
Councilors must be nominated by someone to the California Student Aid Commission. Le was nominated by his colleague, My Chang. In her nomination, Chang stated, “Yia is a person who knows and understands that financial aid is the most important factor whether a student attends college or not. He himself was a first-generation college student from a low socio-economic background. Ever since he started his career as a school counselor at McLane High, I have had the privilege to witness his strength and drive in this area.”
Le holds an undergraduate degree in psychology and a graduate degree in Pupil Personnel Services Credential in Student Affairs and College Counseling.
