When classes abruptly ended in March because of the coronavirus outbreak, many teachers didn’t know that month would be the last time they saw their students for the rest of the school year.
Things only became harder for Fresno County students and teachers during the coming months.
Teachers spoke to Ed Lab education reporter Monica Velez about the challenges of distance learning.
Some parents are having a hard time balancing work while also homeschooling their children.
These times are unprecedented, and parents are rightfully concerned about their children’s education. A recent survey by the California Student Aid Commission reported that 70% of the 76,000 students who responded to the survey lost their source of income due to COVID-19. Almost half of all students said their living situations were disrupted.
There are many concerns for students of higher education as well. On Monday, the Ed Lab’s Ashleigh Panoo reported that international students could face deportation if their schools switch to online learning.
We’re listening
This week the Ed Lab’s Isabel Sophia Dieppa hosted the first of two listening sessions asking parents what they want schools to look like this fall.
Parents said they would like to know what to expect in the fall. Schools around Fresno County have yet to release their plan for the fall semester.
What do you need from school districts this fall? How do you want school to look this fall? Let us know!
If you are interested in participating in Thursday’s listening session, you can RSVP here.
