Clovis schools warn parents of ‘hoax emails’ giving false coronavirus information

The Clovis school officials warned parents of “hoax” emails falsely claiming area schools were canceling classes in connection with the spreading Coronavirus.
It’s not true, officials said in a statement Thursday. Classes in Clovis and most of the rest of Fresno County remained in session Thursday.
Clovis school will “adjust” events and activities in the district following the governor’s direction to postpone social events of more than 250 people to protect against the spreading Coronavirus cases.
More information about the cancellation of events will be posted on the district’s website, www.cusd.com, and sent to parents through email, text, phone, and app notifications.
Everything sent from Clovis Unified will be posted online so parents can fact check information, according to its website.
The Central Unified School District is canceling or postponing all field trips in counties or cities that have had more than 10 Coronavirus cases, according to its website. That includes San Francisco, Santa Clara, San Mateo, Los Angeles, Contra Costa, and Sacramento.
For cities or counties that have less than 9 Coronavirus cases, the district will contact the Fresno County Department of Health for guidance. Central Unified will review out of state field trips on a case-by-case basis, the statement said.
Two Fresno-area schools in Parlier shuttered this week after officials learned a student recently had traveled to a European country described as high-risk for the virus. The student has not displayed any symptoms and is considered low-risk. School officials said the move was taken as a precaution.
Fresno-area college classes also remained in session Thursday, though many student activities were suspended.
Just before noon Thursday, the Mountain West Conference, which includes Fresno State, suspended all spring sports because of the virus.
The California Interscholastic Federation told participating schools - including Sierra Pacific’s girls basketball team - the high school state basketball state championship games will be canceled because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
