6 central San Joaquin Valley students earn scholarships for overcoming adversity

Six central San Joaquin Valley students were each awarded $1,000 scholarships honoring recipients who’ve overcome substantial obstacles or adversities to graduate from high school, the Fresno County Office of Education announced.

The scholarships, awarded by the California Association of Supervisors of Child Welfare and Attendance, were presented at an annual luncheon Friday at Pardini’s restaurant in northwest Fresno.

This year’s local recipients were: Mia Neng Vang of Clovis East High; Lillian Maistas, Jade Zamora-Alverz and Caleb Larue of Kings River High in Sanger; and Leo Carillo and Jamie Roberts of Hanford West High.
