Fresno State plan for tougher enrollment requirements approved

Fresno State officials have received the go-ahead from the California State University System Chancellor Timothy White to change the university’s enrollment requirements starting in the 2016-17 school year.

Officials said in March that they’d need to raise requirements to offset spikes in applications. The numbers of applicants were fast outpacing increases in state funding, they said then.

Those from outside the Valley, aside from athletes and other students who are recruited by Fresno State, will likely have a much tougher time landing a seat. The university may also need to turn away some local students who are qualified under Fresno State’s current requirements.

In the university’s announcement Wednesday, they said how the requirements will change is still being developed and will be shared with faculty and administrators once the recommendations are complete.
