UC Merced professor honored
UC Merced cognitive science professor Michael Spivey has been awarded the William Procter Prize for Scientific Achievement.
The Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society, award is given to those who have made significant contributions to scientific research. Jane Goodall and Margaret Mead are among past recipients. Spivey was nominated by colleagues.
Spivey studies how people perceive and respond to what they hear and see.
He will accept the award in November and deliver a lecture to an audience of scientists and engineers. Spivey will receive a Steuben glass sculpture, a certificate of recognition, a $5,000 honorarium and a $5,000 research grant to be awarded to a scholar in his field.
