Clovis Unified board is talking about hiring a new superintendent in weekend meetings

Clovis Unified board is holding a special board meeting Saturday morning to discuss the hiring of a new superintendent, said Kelly Avants, district spokeswomen.

The closed-session meeting started at 7 a.m.

It was announced in April that Superintendent Janet Young, 63, who worked almost 40 years at the district, will retire at the end of the school year.

Avants said the board will reconvene for a special board meeting at 8 a.m. Sunday to discuss the same topic in closed session.

Avants said she does not know if the board will identify the new superintendent once the meetings are completed. She said the board cannot approve the new superintendent’s contract in a special board meeting.

The district hopes to have a new superintendent by the end of the school year.
