Career skills put to the test in challenge for central San Joaquin Valley students
More than 1,000 students competed Thursday in the Career Skills Challenge at Fresno City College.
The event, sponsored by the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools, featured over 40 high schools from Fresno, Madera and Mariposa counties.
Students competed in 43 skills categories, such as construction, technology, welding, robotics, auto mechanics, medical, design and firefighting.
At stake were gold, silver and bronze medals for each category. Two special awards were also presented: The Marty, for best in show in the media competition, and The Never Quit for athletic training.
Championship trophies were given to schools that finished first in their division.
