Fresno County sheriff’s detectives have arrested a man who they say shot and killed another man in Huron on July 10.

Sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said that Ignacio Sanchez, 34, of Huron, was booked into Fresno County Jail on murder charges. He is a gang member and convicted felon who was in jail on an unrelated charge when the arrest was made.

Around midnight on July 10, Huron police responded to a physical disturbance call and found David Lemus, 19, of Hanford, lying in the street with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Coalinga Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The Huron Police Department turned over the investigation to the sheriff’s office.

Surveillance footage, witness testimony and other evidence led to Sanchez’s arrest, Botti said. Investigators don’t know if the shooting was gang-related, and they continue to search for a motive in the crime.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 559-498-STOP.
