Fresno police rescue woman held against will in home

A man was arrested after allegedly holding a woman against her will and assaulting her in the 3300 block of East Grant Street in southeast Fresno just after noon on Saturday. The man already had a warrant for his arrest for a similar incident earlier in the week with the same woman, Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said.

Police arrested Elias Gorostiza, 29, after he would not obey orders to come out of the home and a newly deployed SWAT team, Delta, was forced to make entry. He was arrested without incident. The woman was not injured, and no one else was in the home at the time, Dyer said.

A family member of the woman had notified police of a text message he received from the woman earlier in the day, stating that Gorostiza, her boyfriend, had shown up unannounced to her home armed with a handgun, said Dyer.

The woman already had a restraining order against Gorostiza from the prior incident when he fired a gun in her home and threatened to kill her and her children.

Gorostiza, a gang member, was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence, discharging a firearm in a residence and making terrorist threats, Dyer said.
