Detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying a man in his 20s who is wanted for an attempted armed robbery that was caught on camera at a southeast Fresno market on July 2, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said.

The suspect, described as a Hispanic man, approximately 5-foot-7, 160 pounds with short, dark hair, walked into the Mom and Pops Market on 2444 S. Ninth St., just south of Church Avenue, around 4:30 p.m. and acted as if he was going to buy a soda, sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said. Instead, he told the clerk to hand him the money from the cash register.

When the clerk refused to hand over the cash, the suspect pulled a handgun out of his pocket and demanded the money again, Botti said. She told him that he wasn’t going to get the cash and told him that he was being recorded by a surveillance camera. The suspect immediately left the store without any cash.

Anyone with information about the suspect’s identity and/or whereabouts is asked to call Detective Tim Jacobsen at 559-600-8709 or Crime Stoppers at 559-498-STOP (7867).
