A man in his early 40s was stabbed twice in the abdomen in a central Fresno alley after an altercation over money, police said.

Officers went to the area of Van Ness and Belmont avenues for a call around 1:08 p.m. about a stabbing victim and found a man bleeding profusely in front of an abandoned building, Lt. Joe Gomez said. The victim refused to cooperate initially and told officers he didn’t know who stabbed him.

The officers found blood in an alley across the street, Gomez said. The victim later admitted that he was stabbed in the alley after getting into a dispute with the suspect because he owed him money.

The victim was transported to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.
