Madera gang member mistakenly kills member of his own gang

A man was arrested in Madera after mistaking another man for a rival gang member and shooting him on June 26, causing his death, the Madera Police Department said.

Police said Michael Sanchez was walking home from a bar when Andrew Chavez shot him at Gateway Drive and 11th Street in Madera. Although Sanchez was from the same gang as Chavez, he happened to be wearing rival gang colors, which caused Chavez to mistake him for a rival gang member.

Chavez was already on probation for another case involving an AK-47, police said.
