One man killed in suspected DUI crash west of Fresno

One man who may have been drinking alcohol is dead after he ran a stop sign June 28, colliding with another vehicle west of Fresno, the California Highway Patrol said.

The collision happened around 4:10 p.m. at the intersection of McKinley and Rolinda avenues. For an unknown reason, a 30-year-old man driving a 1986 Honda failed to stop at the stop sign at Rolinda, driving directly into the path of a 2004 Chevrolet. The driver of the Chevrolet, Reynaldo Rodriguez, was unable to stop in time.

When the two cars hit, the Chevrolet overturned and the driver of the Honda was killed. Both vehicles sustained major damage, but Rodriguez had only minor injuries and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center.

Officers said they found beer cans in and around the Honda, and believe the driver may have been under the influence when the collision occurred.

The collision remains under investigation.
