A man was arrested Saturday after Fresno police say he may have accidentally shot himself with a stolen gun.

Officers responded to Community Regional Medical Center about 9:10 p.m. for a reported gunshot victim.

They found Marc Rodriguez, 28, suffering an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to his upper thigh.

Initially he gave officers several different names and refused to tell them where he was when he was shot, but officers determined his identity by his fingerprints.

Some of his friends who live in the 4800 block of east University Avenue brought Rodriguez to the hospital after he showed up to their apartment bleeding and told them he’d been shot.

He had car keys on him so officers went to the apartment on University Avenue where they found a vehicle. Officers could see blood on the driver seat and conducted a parole search. Rodriguez was on supervised release for being in possession of a loaded firearm in public.

They found a loaded .38-caliber revolver hidden in the back seat. The gun was loaded and reported stolen in Sanger.

Officers found additional bullets in the car as well as evidence indicating that Rodriguez was shot in the driver seat.

He was arrested and booked for a variety of charges including parole violation, being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in public, carrying a loaded stolen firearm in public, felon in possession of ammunition, misdemeanor possession of a stolen firearm and giving false information to a police officer.
