Man beaten in Fresno after meetup on dating site
Three people were arrested Wednesday after a man who arranged to meet another man on an adult dating site was beaten and robbed of his money and car in southeast Fresno, police reported.
The victim was badly hurt by his assailants, but declined to go to the hospital, Lt. Joe Gomez said.
Gomez said the victim arranged to meet another man at the River Park shopping center after corresponding on the website Backpage.com. From there, a suspect asked the victim to drive him to a home near McKenzie Avenue and Ninth Street in southeast Fresno. Once there, two other males joined the first suspect in punching and kicking the victim. The suspects then fled in the victim’s Volkswagen.
Auto theft detectives located the stolen car near Jackson and Turner avenues in southeast Fresno and followed the occupants to West and Central avenues south of city limits where police stopped the car. Brandon Valadez, 18, and Homero Mondragon, 18, both of Fresno, and a 17-year-old from Sanger were turned over to detectives.
Police said Valadez and Mondragon were booked on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle. Their involvement in a carjacking is under investigation. The 17-year-old was booked into juvenile hall.
