Armed woman arrested after search near Fresno elementary school
A woman armed with a .25 caliber derringer was arrested after a pursuit near Roeding Elementary School on Wednesday morning, Fresno police reported.
Sgt. John Romo said officers initially went to apartments in the 300 block of West Dakota Avenue to check on suspicious subjects looking into parked cars. As officers arrived, the occupants of a Silver Honda fled at a high rate of speed.
Two people in a black Chevrolet Impala yielded at Dakota and West avenues. The driver, identified as Luis Sanz, was taken into custody. A woman identified as Vanessa Rios ran from the car. She was located nearby and found to be carrying a .25 caliber pistol and burglary tools, police said.
Sanz was booked on charges of possession of methamphetamine for sale, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of burglary tools and parole violation. Rios was booked on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a switchblade and possession of burglary tools.
