A 20-year-old Fresno man on probation was arrested Saturday night after Fresno police said he tried to rob someone at gunpoint.

Officers responded to the area of Alamos and Recreation avenues near Fresno State after getting a call about an armed robbery.

The victim told police that a man pointed a gun at his face and demanded money. The victim had no money, so the suspect pushed him and fled, police said. The victim gave officers a description of the suspect, and they began searching the surrounding area.

Officers spotted a man fitting the suspect’s description near Gettysburg Avenue and Highway 168. The suspect ran when he saw officers approaching, police said.

Officers knew there was a man on probation for robbery that lived near Norwich Avenue and Highway 168 so they went to his home.

The victim and a witness were transported there and identified Chance Easter as the person who tried to rob the victim.

Officers searched Easter’s residence and found a spent shell casing in the toilet as well as a box of ammunition in his bedroom, police said.

The gun used in the robbery attempt hasn’t been located. Easter was arrested and booked into Fresno County Jail on suspicion of attempted robbery and probation violations.
