Police: Porterville man arrested for alleged child abuse

A 24-year-old man was arrested Friday in Porterville for allegedly striking a 1-year-old child, the Porterville Police Department said.

Tyler Davis, the live-in boyfriend of the child’s mother, was arrested after Tulare County Child Welfare Services was notified of allegations of abuse to the child. Porterville police say they were called to the home in Porterville around 1 p.m. Friday and found visible injuries to the child, who they say Davis apparently struck.

The child was then transported to Sierra View Medical Center, and later to Valley Children’s Hospital for a possible skull fracture. The injuries to the child were not life-threatening, and the child was in stable condition at Valley Children’s Hospital, according to Porterville police.

The remaining children in the household have been turned over to Tulare County Child Welfare Services pending further investigation, said police.

Davis was arrested for alleged corporal injury to a child and is being held in Tulare County jail on $50,000 bail. Police are asking anyone with information on this case to contact Detective Calderon at 559-782-7400.
