Police: Woman arrested after wild DUI hit-run in northwest Fresno

A 30-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of drunken driving after hitting two vehicles, then running from police and crawling through a nearby apartment window to hide, Fresno police said.

Police say Cherell Lang was driving her Lexus on Tuesday around 2 p.m. when she hit a car on Herndon Avenue after exiting Highway 41. Lang then drove west and when she reached Fruit Avenue, tried to squeeze between traffic, rear-ending an SUV and shoving it through a wrought iron fence. The driver of the SUV was not hurt.

Lang then ran to a nearby apartment at 1530 W. Herndon Ave. Police say witnesses to the accident ran after her until she got to the apartment, where she removed the screen on a kitchen window and crawled inside, locking the front door. Officers found Lang hiding in a closet after the resident arrived home and unlocked the security door. Police say Lang resisted arrest and spit on officers once she was handcuffed.

Along with DUI, Lang was also charged with hit-and-run, two counts of assault on a police officer, unauthorized entry to a property and driving on a suspended license.
