Liquor store clerk chases away Fresno gunman who fired twice

Fresno police want help apprehending a bandit who fired shots during a robbery foiled by an aggressive cashier at Broadway Liquor near downtown Fresno.

The gunman entered the store about 11 a.m. April 23, pulled out a black handgun and demanded, “Give me all you got.”

When the clerk refused to comply, the gunman grabbed the cash register, which remained tethered to the counter by an electrical cord. As he struggled to free the register, the drawer popped open, spilling its change. He fired one round, which hit the floor.

The clerk then rushed the gunman, pushing him toward the front door. Another round was fired, which hit a refrigerator.

The gunman ran from the store and jumped into a dark-colored getaway car. The car was last seen going east on Voorman Avenue.

Anyone with information about the car or the suspect is asked to call police detective Pat Mares at (559) 621-2427.
