2 brothers held after gun fired near Days Inn in Fresno
Two brothers were arrested in southwest Fresno on Friday night after one allegedly discharged a handgun near the Days Inn motel on East Avenue, the Fresno Police Department said.
Derek Hernandez, 28, of Fresno, allegedly shot several rounds from his handgun into the air near the office of the motel around 11 p.m. Friday night. Officers responding to a large motorcycle club gathering in the parking lot of the motel heard the shots and saw Hernandez holding a small handgun.
When officers confronted Hernandez, he fled. When they attempted to pursue him, his brother, Damien Hernandez, 30, also of Fresno, blocked the officers’ path.
Derek Hernandez then ran into the McDonald’s parking lot nearby, where he allegedly tossed the gun into some nearby bushes before surrendering to police.
Derek Hernandez was arrested for reckless discharge of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in public and resisting arrest. Damien Hernandez was arrested for obstructing officer in the performance of their duties. Both were booked into Fresno County Jail.
