Kettleman City man shot after investigating noise
A Kettleman City man was shot early Thursday morning after investigating a noise outside his residence, the Kings County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded to 302 General Petroleum Ave. around 1:27 a.m. for reports of gunfire in the area, the Sheriff’s Office said. They found Jose Barrios with two gunshot wounds to his lower back and upper thigh area.
Barrios was airlifted to Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia for treatment, the Sheriff’s Office said. He was in stable condition and is expected to recover.
Barrios told detectives that an individual wearing all black with a black ski mask approached him while he was investigating a noise that sounded like glass breaking, the Sheriff’s Office said. The suspect brandished a firearm and began firing at him.
Barrios ran back inside his residence and the suspect apparently ran off in an unknown direction, the Sheriff’s Office said. Neither the victim nor witnesses were able to provide more information on the suspect’s identity due to the late hour, the lighting and the suspect’s apparel.
Anyone with information on this shooting is asked to call the Kings County Sheriff’s Office at 559-852-2720.
