One man shot in the back in west Fresno

One man was shot in the back several times walking down the street Monday evening in west Fresno, and a second man has been arrested, the Fresno Police Department said.

The shooting happened around 5:40 p.m. near Polk and Fairmont avenues. The victim was walking down the street when he was approached by another man, said Lt. Joe Alvarez, later identified allegedly as Montrell Skinner, 19, of Fresno. The two got into a confrontation, and when the victim attempted to flee, he was shot several times in the back.

Skinner then ran into a neighboring apartment complex where police found and arrested him. Police also found a handgun believed to have been used in the shooting.

Skinner was arrested on suspicion of felony assault charges and multiple weapons related charges, Alvarez said.
