Man’s body retrieved from central Fresno irrigation canal
Fresno police homicide detectives are investigating as a “suspicious death” a body that was found Monday in the grate of an irrigation canal in central Fresno.
Lt. Joe Gomez said a Fresno Irrigation District worker discovered the man’s body in the canal at Millbrook and McKinley avenues about 2 p.m. Monday and alerted police. The worker told police he did not see the body there Sunday when he checked the grate.
The Fresno Fire Department’s urban search and rescue dive team retrieved the body with assistance from a fire department ladder truck. Gomez said the body was unrecognizable. An autopsy will be done to determine the cause of death.
