Suspect sought in copper wire theft at Central Unified school
Police are looking for a man who stole $2,500 worth of copper wire from a Central Unified school west of Highway 99 on Wednesday morning, said Fresno police Lt. Joe Gomez.
The suspect broke into an electrical box at Steinbeck Elementary School at 4 a.m. to get approximately 475 feet of wire, police said.
The theft was caught on surveillance video.
The suspect is described as short, Hispanic, approximately 5-foot-8 and 150 pounds. His vehicle is a white van with a black stripe on top going from front to back.
The suspect drove around the campus, and it is believed he was trying to find a box that was not enclosed by cement, Gomez said. The electrical box was on the Milburn Avenue side of the school right behind a wall that wasn’t secured by a gate.
