Sanger man surrenders after standoff with deputies

A 47-year-old Sanger man surrendered Sunday night after barricading himself in his home when he shot into a neighbor’s house, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said.

Sheriff deputies responded to a call of shots fired in an area off South Rainbow Route in Sanger around 4:15 p.m.

When deputies arrived, they found a man had shot into a neighbor’s home and later barricaded himself in his own home.

A crisis negotiation team responded to try to get the man to surrender. Around 8:40 p.m. the man finally surrendered to deputies and no one was hurt, the sheriff’s office said.

Detectives were investigating as the man was evaluated by emergency medical personnel. The man is believed to have a history of mental health issues, the sheriff’s office said.

The Clovis Police Department and a Special Weapons and Tactics unit also responded to the incident.
