Fresno man stabs woman in middle of Clovis street

A Fresno man was arrested Thursday after stabbing a woman multiple times in the back while in the middle of a Clovis street, Clovis police reported.

Sgt. Jim Munro said officers called to the scene on Peach Avenue just north of Shaw Avenue just before 9 p.m. got help from the Fresno police helicopter crew and a homeowner in the area who spotted the suspect, Matthew Jackson, 30, hiding under a pickup in his driveway. Jackson was arrested without incident. He was being held in Fresno County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder.

The stabbing happened near the McDonald’s restaurant. Munro said the woman didn’t know the suspect. She was in stable condition at a local hospital. The investigation is continuing.
