Ink-theft suspects ID’d after one calls robbed Target with cellphone

Fresno police are searching for two suspects they say robbed two Target retail stores in February, threatened a security guard with a gun, then called that guard several hours later – inadvertently leading to their identification.

Sgt. Mark Hudson said Derek Anthony, 43, and Marie Guazon, 35, walked into the Target at Shaw and Marks avenues in northwest Fresno on Feb. 24. They stole about $200 worth of printer ink. As they tried to leave, store security stopped them. Anthony showed the security guard a handgun in his waistband and asked, “Do you want to get shot?”

The couple then left in a silver Mercedes sport-utility vehicle.

Police later learned the couple had stolen $457 in printer ink from the River Park Target prior to the Shaw and Marks robbery.

About two hours after the second robbery, Anthony used his personal cellphone to call the Shaw and Marks Target to yell at the security guard who tried to stop him. The guard gave Anthony’s phone number to police, who were then able to identify the two suspects, authorities said.

Police are asking for help finding Anthony and Guazon. Anyone with information is asked to call detective Curtis Bunch at 559-621-6533 or Crime Stoppers at 559-498-STOP.
