Woman dead, man wounded in central Fresno shooting

A woman is dead and a man was hurt after a shooting in central Fresno on Saturday afternoon, the Fresno Police Department said.

Officers responded to Marks and Nielsen avenues west of Highway 99 at 2:35 p.m. regarding a shooting victim. Officers found an adult male, adult female and two small children in a vehicle. The woman was dead, and the man was suffering from gunshot wounds that were not life-threatening.

He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center. The children were unharmed.

Officers determined the shooting occurred near Belmont Avenue and Abby Street in central Fresno.

It is unknown what prompted the shooting.

Detectives are in the very early stages of their investigation, police said, and no other information was immediately available.
