Hanford gang member convicted of 2013 murder of woman
A Hanford gang member was convicted April 8 for murdering a woman walking down the street just hours after he was released from jail, the Kings County District Attorney said.
Larry Miles, 23, a Crip gang member, had just heard that one of his associates was shot minutes before he encountered the woman on Nov. 8, 2013, the DA said.
He drove angrily looking for revenge, the DA said, and found Jenny Torres, who he believed was a rival gang member, walking down the road in the area of 11th and Third streets.
Miles got out of the rental car he was driving and yelled gang slurs at Torres before shooting her three times and leaving her for dead in the gutter.
Witnesses called 911, but Torres was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel who attempted to revive her, the DA said.
The investigation took months, but the car he drove while committing the crime was rented by a friend of his, and investigators traced it back to Miles. His fingerprints were on the steering wheel.
Miles had been released from Kings County Jail on misdemeanor charges hours before killing Torres, the DA said.
His sentencing is scheduled for May 6, and he faces life in prison.
