Although The Ahwahnee Hotel bears a different name today, Yosemite National Park officials are stepping up their efforts to find the hotel’s iconic sign.

Yosemite spokesman Scott Gediman said that a $1,000 reward has been offered for any information that leads to the recovery of the sign, which was stolen in late February. Thieves took the sign sometime during the evening of Feb. 27 or the morning of Feb. 28.

Gediman said that park rangers have few leads in the case. He hopes someone will come forward with a helpful tip to recover the historic sign. Anyone with information is asked to call 209-372-0246.

The Ahwahnee Hotel opened in 1927 and was deemed a National Historic Landmark in 1987. The hotel was renamed The Majestic Yosemite Hotel in March due to an ongoing copyright dispute with the park’s former concessionaire.
