Elderly woman who died in Clovis apartment fire identified
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office has identified the elderly woman who died when a two-alarm fire swept through a two-story apartment building in Clovis early Friday as Soua Yang, 87, of Clovis.
The fire was reported just before 2 a.m. at 1232 Harvard Ave. Firefighters found flames coming from a downstairs apartment and burning the apartment above it.
Clovis police who arrived before the fire crews removed Yang from one of the apartments. She was taken to Clovis Community Medical Center, where she died, Deputy Fire Chief John Binaski said.
The fire spread to four units and jeopardized the wing of the apartment complex before fire crews were able to contain it.
Damage was estimated at $450,000 and several occupants were displaced.
