Fresno man identified as Millerton Lake drowning victim

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the man who drowned at Millerton Lake as 19-year-old Andre Leary of Fresno.

Witnesses saw Leary struggle as he swam near the boat ramp and campground area around 5:35 p.m. When deputies and rangers with the California Department of Parks and Recreation arrived minutes later, they were unable to locate Leary. The sheriff helicopter and dive team were then called to help with the search.

The victim was found unconscious around 6:45 p.m. as he was pulled out of the water, Lt. Ron Hayes said. Paramedics tried to resuscitate him before taking him to Saint Agnes Medical Center in Fresno, where he was pronounced dead.
