Fresno police arrest three men in beating, robbery of homeless man

Three Fresno men were arrested after police say they beat and robbed a homeless man in southeast Fresno on March 23.

The attack occurred at 1:15 p.m. near Belmont Avenue and First Street.

Witnesses told police dispatchers that four men were beating the homeless man for his money and cigarettes. When the attack ended, witnesses told officers which direction the men went.

The Fresno police helicopter was in the area and got to the scene in seconds, the Fresno Police Department said. It quickly located three of the four suspects.

Oscar Alvarez, 40, Antonio Baltierra, 21, and Abisai Solano, 21, were booked into the Fresno County Jail. All three are East Side Fresno Bulldog gang members, police said.

In addition, police reported that over the last two weeks, officers have reduced robberies in southeast Fresno by 33 percent.
