Teen boy shot in northeast Fresno behind wheel of parked car
A 17-year-old boy was shot to death Thursday evening in northeast Fresno while sitting behind the wheel of a parked vehicle, Fresno police said.
The Fresno County Coroner on Friday identified the victim as Andrew Vann of Fresno.
Officers responded to the intersection of Chestnut and Holland avenues, between Gettysburg and Ashlan avenues, around 7:15 p.m. for a report of a victim with a gunshot wound, Lt. Mindy Casto said.
When officers arrived, they pulled Vann out of the driver’s seat of a Honda four-door stopped at the corner and began CPR until paramedics arrived, Casto said. Vann was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he later died.
Witnesses told police they heard an altercation between two people and the 17-year-old near a church before two to three gunshots rang out, Casto said. Officers found evidence to support the statement and saw bullet holes on the Honda.
The Honda rolled toward the intersection after the shooting as two suspects fled south on foot, Casto said.
Detectives were at the scene looking for evidence and gathering witness statements, Casto said.
Anyone with information on the homicide is asked to call the Fresno Police Department at 559-621-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 559-498-STOP (559-498-7867).
