Fresno man arrested on weapons charges during traffic stop
Fresno police arrested a man on various weapons charges during a traffic stop Thursday, Sgt. Tony Bustos said.
Police were conducting a routine Crime Suppression Operation near Roosevelt and Belmont avenues in the Tower District when they stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation.
Officers identified the driver as Donavin Caldwell, 25, of Fresno.
As officers were talking with Caldwell, one officer noticed a firearm near the steering wheel.
Caldwell was quickly detained and officers later identified the weapon as a loaded .22-caliber revolver.
Bustos said Caldwell told officers the weapon was for protection.
After investigating, police found Caldwell had prior convictions and was not allowed to possess firearms, Bustos said.
