Officers arrested three people, including one on a weapons charge, in central Fresno on Monday afternoon, Fresno police said.
Passenger Jarmal Packard and driver Joseph Packard, both 18, were in a vehicle near Dakota and Blackstone when police attempted to stop them after seeing the vehicle was registered to a man wanted on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, Fresno police said. The vehicle fled and eventually stopped at North College Avenue and East Lansing Way, after the wanted suspect, Jarmal Packard, fled on foot and dropped a loaded handgun.
Jarmal Packard was arrested on suspicion of a felony assault warrant and a weapons charge, and Joseph Packard was arrested on suspicion of driving violations and allowing the loaded firearm in his vehicle, Fresno police said. A third passenger, a 20-year-old man, was allowed to leave when the scene was cleared by detectives.
A pedestrian, Lesley Hood, 28, was arrested after she walked into the area, attempted to take the keys of the vehicle and hide them from officers, Fresno police said.
