Bullet flies into Hanford home during drive-by

A Hanford man awoke to the sounds of gunfire as a bullet flew into his home during a drive-by shooting late Saturday night, police said.

Hanford police were called to the 1000 block of North White Street, just west of 10th Avenue, for reports of gunfire, officer Jean Bidegaray said. Several callers heard four gunshots and a vehicle speeding away.

Officers found a bullet hole on the north wall of a house, Bidegaray said. The bullet went through the wall and shattered a sliding glass shower door as it flew into a bathroom. A bullet fragment was found inside.

The sole occupant of the home was sleeping and was awakened by the sounds of the gunshots, Bidegaray said.

One witness described the suspect vehicle as an older model sedan with tail lights that covered the entire back end, Bidegaray said. The victim believed there was only one person in the vehicle. The vehicle fled south on White Street toward Florinda Street.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact the Hanford Police Department at 559-585-2535.
