CHP: Fresno man killed by hit-run driver crossing Highway 180

A 40-year-old Fresno man was killed by a hit-and-run driver late Friday night while walking across Highway 180 west of Kerman, the California Highway Patrol said.

The man was crossing the highway just west of Napa Avenue about 11:20 p.m. when he was struck by a 1996 Ford SUV traveling east at 55 to 60 mph, the CHP said.

The victim was declared dead at the scene after officers could not revive him, the CHP said.

The driver of the Ford SUV fled but was later arrested, the CHP said. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.

Uziel Romero-Gonzalez, 28, of Fresno, was booked into the Fresno County Jail for suspected hit-and-run resulting in a death or injury, according to jail records.
