Two theft suspects arrested by Visalia police after vehicle pursuit

Two people were arrested in Visalia on Tuesday after a pursuit that took police to Exeter, Visalia police said.

Makaella Leonardo, 20, and Jorge Suarez, 32, were approached by a police officer near Court Street and Green Oaks Drive after a caller reported a suspicious vehicle to dispatchers, Visalia police said.

When the officer attempted to talk to them, a vicious dog emerged from an open rear passenger window, police said. The officer asked them the restrain the dog and exit the vehicle.

Leonardo and Suarez allegedly refused the officer’s ordered and fled, initiating a pursuit. The pursuit ended when the two suspects’ vehicle collided with parked cars near Visalia Road and G Street in Exeter.

Leonardo and Suarez were taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening wounds. The dog fled and was not found, according to police.

Stolen property was recovered from their vehicle, police said.

They both had active felony arrest warrants and were booked into the Tulare County Pre-Trial Facility.
