Marijuana plants blamed for Fresno apartment fire

Fresno police arrested two men after about 400 marijuana plants were found at a growing operation in southeast Fresno.

Taken into custody were Tau Yang, 45, and Xai Yang, 63.

Police Sgt. Tim Tietjen of the major narcotics unit said the plants were discovered after a fire at the apartment complex near Woodward Avenue and Fourth Street.

The fire was caused when an electrical meter was bypassed, causing a power overload. Tietjen said such growing operations endangered every resident of the complex. He urged anyone who suspects a similar situation to notify authorities.
