Child critical after central Fresno collision
A Madera man was booked on felony charges of driving under the influence early Tuesday after a collision in central Fresno in which his wife and five children were injured, Fresno police reported. One child is in critical condition with a head injury.
The crash took place just after midnight at Weber and Hughes avenues. Police spokesman Joe Gomez said David Juan Moralez Jr., 30, was southbound on Hughes Avenue in a Ford Explorer when he failed to yield to a red signal light at Weber Avenue and slammed into a Chevrolet Tahoe. The most seriously injured child was a 10-year-old boy who apparently was not wearing a seat belt and sustained a head injury. The ages of the other children are 15 months, 5, 7 and 16. The injuries of the other passengers ranged from bruises to fractures. The driver of the other vehicle was treated at a hospital and released.
Gomez said Moralez was driving on a suspended license because he failed to appear for a court date.
